Updated: Mar 20

Chemnitz, European Capital of Culture 2025: A Historical Transformation

The mystical is a permanent source of inspiration for the Hamburg-based photographer Rüdiger Glatz, whose images have an ethereal quality, almost like a moment caught in poesy. Coming from the early years capturing graffiti artists with a camera, Ruediger Glatz now prefers to follow authenticity, where his subjects acquire their reality through his experiences. The distinction between photography and fine art is thin in his creative’s works. Within his HALLENKUNST artist residency in Chemnitz Ruediger Glatz took a wide range of photos to document the city's historical and cultural transformation. The partially abstract-painterly shots create an artistic cityscape shaped by the photographer's personal impressions.

The sensitive black-and-white images makes you (and us) curious about this years European cultural metropolis. Ruediger Glatz chooses the citie´s old Sorbian name, "Kamenica," as the headlining title published in a book featuring 174 photos on 224 pages to be released April 04th, 2025 in the Hartmannfabrik Chemnitz.
